La Jolla Youth Soccer Director of Coaching – Kristin Jones
Kristin Jones is a product of the San Diego soccer community. Born and raised in Oceanside, CA, Kristin played club soccer in San Diego before becoming a part of the UCSD Women’s soccer team. At UCSD, Kristin was an integral player for a program that made 3 Final Four appearances in the NCAA tournament, bringing home the National Championship 2 out of the 3 years. Kristin is a two time All-American, three time first-team NSCAA All-West Region, three-time All-CCAA selection, and the 2003 CCAA Player of the Year. Right after college, Kristin transitioned into coaching at UCSD and is now the Head Assistant Coach of the UCSD Women’s soccer program, leading the team to multiple CCAA championships and NCAA appearances with two national runner-up placements. In 2012, Kristin was named the Director of Coaching for La Jolla Youth Soccer’s recreational and competitive programs after serving as the Assistant Director of the Girls Program at Nomads for 11 years. Kristin is also the Head Coach of La Jolla High School, which she has turned into a CIF powerhouse. Her squad has appeared in 5 of the last 6 CIF championship games, winning the title in 2009 and 2011 and advancing to the finals of the So-Cal regional tournament both years. Kristin was honored as CIF Coach of the Year in 2009. “Jonesy” is looking to build consistency and a positive learning environment for the kids of La Jolla.
“I am excited to watch La Jolla Youth Soccer grow. I want to create a program in which it is hard for players to leave. With our ever-growing quality staff, we will offer a competitive league where we focus on development first. This development and training will prepare for the their middle school and high school soccer experience while creating a path where they can see college soccer as a possibility. It is our staff’s responsibility to make their dreams a reality.”
La Jolla Youth Soccer – Technical Director - Brian McManus
Widely regarded as one of the greatest Women’s Soccer coaches in history, Brian McManus joined the La Jolla Soccer League in 2012 after 24 years working for the Nomads Soccer Club.
Upon moving to La Jolla, McManus began coaching the UCSD Women’s soccer program and has become the seventh most winningest coach in NCAA history. His program has won seven NCAA National Championships and has been CCAA Conference South Division Champions 11 times in 14 years. On top of this, he has also been named National Coach of the year four times and Western Region coach of the year five times.
McManus is a native of Scotland where he played professionally for Raith Rovers and Aberdeen and spent 11 years as a semi-professional player and coach.
McManus’ strength lies in getting out of players what they didn’t think was possible. He teaches discipline, commitment and the love for the game. He is also well-known around the country and has been an influential force in college placement for many of the girls he has coached throughout the years.
